light guide
Welcome to the klemenza archive.
In Light Guide, Klementsen isolates a vintage relic of human navigation, transforming an weathered, wrought-iron street lamp into a luminous sapphire and emerald mosaic. The artwork captures the intense friction between structural decay—marked by layers of atmospheric verdigris—and the permanent, guiding purpose of the object.
As a former communications specialist, the artist uses this visual statement to protest the cold, modern efficiency of sterile LED infrastructure. By celebrating the classic, warm aesthetics of the old-fashioned bulb, the work serves as a nostalgic monument to craftsmanship, historical preservation, and the poetic beauty found within the heavy northern darkness.
