MY STORY:THE ELEVATOR
The old building where Terry's dentist has his office has an equally old and small elevator. Terry has a fear of the dentist, but has forced himself to visit the dentist due to a severe toothache. Terry is very nervous. As with many others with a fear of the dentist, it was the school dentist's brutal methods and his admonitions that created this anxiety. As the elevator doors are about to slam shut, a foot comes inside and stops the elevator door. It is a woman who enters the elevator. Edit is also going to the 8th floor, but she is going to see her dermatologist. She was urgently called in for an appointment, as the dermatologist wanted to take a new sample of her skin. The previous sample was inconclusive - The elevator door in the worn old elevator makes a metallic, eerie sound when it closes. The two strangers who meet in their own anxious situations are not only nervous, but the elevator is so small that the intimate boundary between the two strangers is challenged. Terry swallows and looks down at the floor. He tries to find something to focus on in the worn floor. Edeit also feels that the intimate branch has passed the comfortable level, but she finds some comfort in looking at the man she doesn't know. He is obviously worse off than her, and selfishly it feels like a relief to the woman. She feels a faint sweat, mixed with a perfume from the man. The elevator is ripe for replacement, and it moves calmly upwards. The elevator creaks and scrapes, and the two strangers feel a sideways nasty movement during the elevator ride. The elevator ride takes forever, Terry thinks. The lady sees his nervousness and touches the stranger's arm in pure emotional reflex. Terry looks over at the woman with thanks in her eyes. Strangely enough, they take the same elevator, together back down to street level when their respective doctors have finished their treatments. That's another story, but I can reveal that the two become friends, and that they help each other's anxiety and trepidation
