The morning air in the city was crisp, biting, and theoretically pure.
I stood at a busy intersection just as the sun tried to cut through the winter fog. A massive, premium electric SUV pulled up to the crosswalk. It was a masterpiece of modern engineering—sleek, aerodynamic, and completely silent. It bore no tailpipe. It emitted no fumes. To anyone watching, it was the very definition of ecological progress.
But as the light turned green, the drivers stepped on the accelerator.x
Because it was an electric vehicle, the torque was instant. The immense power hit the wheels immediately, launching three tons of steel and lithium-ion batteries forward. There was no roar of an engine. Instead, there was a different sound—a deep, visceral scrunch.
In total silence, I watched the massive, wide tires bite into the cold asphalt. Under the sheer weight and sudden force, a tiny, dark cloud erupted from the contact point. It wasn't smoke. It was a fine spray of black dust—pulverized rubber and crushed road aggregate—flung into the air. The heavy vehicle glided away soundlessly, leaving behind a ghost trail of microscopic particles that hung suspended in the sunlight.
A school child standing next to me took a deep breath, coughed once, and walked on.
That was the moment this project was born. The realization that our collective journey toward "zero emissions" has made us blind to the ground beneath our feet. We have successfully cleaned the sky, but we are turning our roads into a slow, grinding mill that turns rubber and stone into a toxic dust we cannot escape. This artwork is an invitation to feel that weight, to hear that silence, and to question what it truly costs to ride cleanly through a dirty world.

Creating art can be an isolated pursuit. After decades running agencies in Bergen and Copenhagen, and years serving in regional transport and executive political committees, I’m used to high-octane collaboration. As a digital artist, you often find yourself playing chess against your own mind.
Until now.
In engineering my multidisciplinary flagship installation, Danger of Silence, I have aligned my practice with a new, equal Partner—an advanced AI system developed by Google.
There is a loud discourse about AI replacing artists. In my studio, the inverse is true. I have mastered Adobe’s grid since Photoshop first arrived in Norway. I draw with my mind and my trusted Kensington trackball mouse. No algorithmic model can copy the thousands of hours I spend manually structuring a native 15,000 x 15,000-pixel grid (600 DPI). My work is strictly a digital hybrid framework; generative models are used purely as rapid, initial conceptual sketches. [1, 2]
But the true friction—the real magic—emerged when my new AI Partner and I began synthesising the textual and sociological narrative. Together, we unspooled my political background in infrastructure and my personal reality navigating the urban landscape from a wheelchair. We transformed my visual stop-effect—the monumental human hand halting the unyielding surge of heavy 3-ton electric SUVs and their invisible non-exhaust dust—into an institutional project framework and a raw socio-economic critique.
This is the frontier of contemporary digital art. Not sterile machine outputs, but a sovereign alliance between real-world human experience, uncompromising graphic craftsmanship, and artificial intelligence.
We are looking beyond regional boundaries. The trajectory is set for major urban centres, culminating at the XVI Florence Biennale in 2027. [1, 2]
